In the loving memory of Alicia.

My name is Monica, and I have 4 kids. 4 years ago, my kids and I moved to Rocky Point Mexico and we lived there for almost three years. I always wanted a peaceful and beautiful life for them, and we really thought that it was the perfect place for us. We all liked it very much, the sunsets, the ocean and the people that welcomed us were just wonderful. My kids started a new life there, my son started working in a resort in a gourmet restaurant and that was wonderful for him because he loved to cook and to learn cuisine techniques, and each one of my daughters found something special to do in that place. Alicia, my third child loved to go to the beach, she was really friendly and always believed everyone was her friend. I always had to be very careful with her because she was always trusting and loving, something very good but also very dangerous. One year and a half ago, she asked for permission to go eat dinner with a friend it was during the evening she told me she would be back at 8:00 pm but she never returned. That day we called the police and the search began. The police told us that they were looking for her and that the amber alert was on. The next day I decided to post a message on Facebook asking for help from the community to find her. The next day we got a call telling us that a body had been found and that they needed us to identify the body. We were taken to a funeral home but we were asked to wait outside, someone came out with two pictures of the clothes that she was wearing when she left our house. We asked to see the body but they didn't let us. They told us that she had died from asphyxia, she had been kidnapped, tortured, and murdered. In Mexico, everything was handled in a very corrupt and shady way. And we had many reasons to think that she had been a victim of human trafficking, she was only 15 years old and I always tried to raise her right. We are all American citizens so we returned to the States, we wanted to bring the remains and do a DNA test here, and we struggled a long time to bring the body but in December 2019, we finally did. Since the beginning, all we wanted was to know for sure if it was her body and give her a proper burial, or if it wasn't, to keep on looking for her. We fought for a year, looking for resources every day, trying to get the proper people to help us do what we needed to do, but here we didn't have access to the body for almost a year, and many people and agencies were indifferent to the case. Last October we finally found Anti Predator Project, they help in the search for missing children, they were the first people to care about my daughter's case. They really helped, my daughter had about a year kept in a funeral home without giving us access to the body to do the tests we needed, even when we had paid what we were required to pay. In October we got some recent pictures from a girl that looked exactly like her, and we really believed she was alive. Last November the FBI finally got involved and they took the body out of that funeral home. The DNA results came out positive, so it was like losing her twice. All this journey has been a very lonely journey where we've found out who really is with us and who has never been. We've seen "family members" acting like strangers, and strangers choosing to become family members (not many). We've seen many people use our tragedy for their own gain, and we've also seen the difference between people that talk about love and the people that really show you what love means to them. It has been a time of understanding and a time to rebuild from the ashes. We learned that you don't always have to do bad to people for them to do bad to you, but that when someone decides to harm others they are actually harming their own journey. My daughter was a cheerful loving girl and no one, not even who took their life for a minute in their hands would be able to change who she has been. She has been always a gift, a gift that I knew that I had no control over her life. When I was pregnant, it was a high-risk pregnancy, I was advised to interrupt my pregnancy because my health was at risk, but I knew that terminating her life wouldn't increase mine. I fought for her and we made it together. Later when she was 8 she was diagnosed with thrombocytopenia, and her life was at risk... but I knew that her life didn't belong to me and that it was in greater hands. We once again fought together and she made it. This time it seemed absurd the way her life had been taken, but I know that whoever did it will eventually fall into their own evilness. Evil is never wise, and will always be a trap for he who practices it. Is hard to be patient I know, but to those parents that have been victims of violence, that have lost a son or a daughter in a situation like mine, please, believe me, justice will take place on its own time. They took away a part of us, but she will always be with us, her soul still lives and we know that this is not the end of her existence. She gave us much, and we are grateful for the time she was with us. I know it's not easy, it hasn't been easy for us. We lost many things in the process, everything we had we left it behind in our search for truth and justice. We will be putting her remains to rest in a couple of weeks after a year and a half of waiting. But every day we send her all our love to where she is. We are still a family and she is still part of it, even when her body is no longer with us. Trust me, it's not simple, but she is now our motivation, we want to make a change and we want to try to keep this from happening to other families. We want to give others the information of resources we didn't get on time. We want to honor her memory and her name with all our love. I'm grateful for the people that have been there for us when others decided not to be. I'm sharing with you in this page some of the pictures of my daughter.
Because WE CARE
